2023 was a MAJOR level up for my career. (Pardon the pun!)In my second year working at theScore, I made MAJOR strides with professional development, and hit some career milestones. - Made my step into broadcast as a host ... I even got my first talent announcement graphic! Yes, it is going on the fridge. - Collaborating alongside Qualcomm's Snapdragon Elite Gaming team and ESL FACE Group, I went to Tokyo and San Diego making memories and amazing content all about mobile gaming (I play Brawl Stars almost every day now!)- Ideated, wrote and produced parody investigation pieces about the LCS Championship in my home state of New Jersey- Continued to work on SFM for theScore esports (and I mean REALLY work on it -- we've done so much!)- Continued to feature on Don't @ Me as a premier voice of the VALORANT community- Met so many fans and took photos with them (I even signed a mousepad!) ... I know this may sound frivolous but as someone who literally never leaves her apartment, for people to come up to me and say they love my work meant the whole world I am SO ready for 2024. Let's be great.

9 years ago, I made my 1st trip to LA, to break into the gaming industry at E3 2014.It cost me and my twin brother everything we had to cover the tickets/flight/hotel.(Our food that week was lasagna Malcolm smuggled from home in his backpack.)We were surprisedto see that our favorite games at E3 were from indie devs.We also learned about a massive problem that needed a solution: game discovery. After E3 2014, we launched ProjectMQ, to fix discovery for indie devs worldwide. It worked, and we scaled it to users in 40 countries, but it was bankrupting us.(I was eating popcorn exclusively for weeks, so I could afford gas to my day job.)Withouta VC investment, we couldn't afford our platform's global server costs.(Less than 1% of VC funding in the US goes to startups with Black founders.)In 2017, we pivoted toesports, producing our 1st event at DreamHack Atlanta.Since then, we've organized tournaments and career expos, and taught students. We shipped our 5-star rated gaming/esports book to 18 countries on 6 continents. We're eager to help build a more sustainable future of the video game industry.I'm thrilled to return to LA this week; if you're there, I hope we can meet in-person.Video games can add so much more value to society that just entertainment. How can I help you achieve your goals for gaming in 2024 and beyond?#Gaming #Esports #Sustainability

GAMING CAN BUILD A SUCCESSFUL x SAFER CAREER FASTER THAN ANY OTHER SPORT, and PAY FOR COLLEGE. It’s astounding how many parents or adults don’t understand or recognize the value in playing video games. Most adults think it’s a waste of time and frown on video games as not being anything more than that. Parents send their kid to pop warner football, little league baseball or any other organized sporting league without realizing that their kid can be successful playing video games much faster than dribbling a basketball for 15 years. If they took the time to see or care what this industry or community is all about that their kids are so attracted to, they would realize that, • Schools have scholarships for gaming• Studies show how gaming helps with depression• The future engineers are gamers• Gaming teaches strategy, leadership, critical thinking, • Gaming builds friendships and connects cultures • You can make a lot of money gamingAfter being an executive at two major gaming organizations, one going on to an almost 2 billion dollar IPO, I seen the success of those who play video games (making more money than their parent’s) or work in the gaming industry. It’s very real and growing tremendously. And, you don’t need to just be a gamer to excel in the gaming industry. With over 3 billion gamers worldwide and growing, and an industry projected to make over 500 billion by 2027… It’s still extremely untapped and wide open for massive success connecting to so many other industries. It has yet to penetrate pop culture, mainstream, or the streets in a meaningful way, but I am about to change that, I am building the most exciting, culturally impacting gaming entertainment empire in the world - that your kid and YOU will be excited about. DM me for more details. So, instead of thinking your kid is wasting time playing video games, maybe stop wasting your time convincing them to do something that’s not as fun, entertaining, and potentially life changing. I left Supercell 6 months ago to build a new type of gaming studio, and have since met with hundreds of people from all parts of our industry, including CEOs, engineers, designers, artists, VCs, and others. Here is my observation:Game developers are tired of making games that are constrained by what works as an ad; they want to focus on making great games worth playing. Marketers are tired of creating questionable creative ads; they want to focus on producing great marketing worth remembering. Players do not want to engage with games that are not worth playing or remembering. We are slowly waking up to the realization that the IDFA changes introduced by Apple in 2020 were one of the best developments for our industry because they are teaching us to stop overly relying on performance marketing to acquire users and instead to focus on creating games worth playing and marketing worth remembering—and I can't emphasize enough the importance of "marketing worth remembering," which is so often overlooked by teams. I believe that huge opportunities lie in a more mature, genuine and holistic marketing approach.Over time, this will encourage our industry to offer better products to our players.#gaming #gamingstartup #mobilegaming #gamingindustry #Antihero #vc #gamingvc #venturecapital

It's quite heartbreaking to see that #Microsoft shut down both #TangoGameworks and #ArkaneStudios - both of which created so many good memories for me. #HiFiRush was exclusively responsible for me buying an XBox again after years of being firmly on team #PlayStation and it was one of the surprise hits of 2023 for me.It was also the main reason for me getting #GamePass. I really wonder what's going on inside Microsoft thinking this was a good move. There must be a sound rationale that makes sense, right? Building a team/studio to deliver games like this is not only an incredible amount of work, but it's also a major cost for corporations. Hitting the reset button for a team that obviously can deliver quality just to build or buy another studio feels very much like short term thinking and/or profit optimizations - it's of course somewhat hard to make perfect sense of their financials from the outside (ex. #ATVI acquisition). I just have a hard time seeing this having a positive mid- or long-term impact for them. This is all besides the fact that Hi-Fi Rush obviously didn't receive any substantial marketing support from the publisher. What they say and what they do doesn't seem to line up. Meh. 😑 What's left to say? I am sorry for everyone affected. The only thing I have to offer is that we're hiring on all fronts. #Supercell currently has open roles in development, marketing and operations. Most roles are in Helsinki, Finland, with some opportunities in our regional offices in China, South Korea and the USA.You can check them out here: https://lnkd.in/dw4fuDNe

Happy Vision Pro day to all who celebrate. I've never seen more announcements of AR/XR funding, company launches, or product debuts than today. If it doesn't become category creating, Apple at least proves once again that many things will live and die by its blessing and attention. VR gaming was ~$2.5B in 2023 according to some estimates. That's only < 1.5% of the global games market, and—irony of ironies—only 10% of the web3 games market. But Apple has a history of normalizing the path forward for the space. And Apple's policies (as I wrote about yesterday in my piece about minigames) are changing on multiple fronts, many of them that can benefit all kinds of innovation in gaming. It's too soon to declare victory, but for an industry that has severely punished its people over the last year, it's exciting that there's so much happening that will spawn new creativity, new studios, and new ways to play. Anyone gone hands-on with one yet?
